Duncan Perrin, Aquaculture Manager (SMI)

Duncan joined Sunderland Marine in 2000 as a Risk Management Surveyor.  He started his aquaculture career working on a trout farm in Somerset before completing the three-year Higher National Diploma in Fish Farming and Fishery Management at Sparsholt College.   He was then employed as a technician by Marine Harvest McConnell at the R&D facility at Lochailort, Scotland.  The department undertook investigations and research with vaccines, feed, sea lice and new species development (turbot, halibut).  Duncan’s main focus was looking at smoltification in relation to photoperiod regimes across the different freshwater production systems.  In 1998, Duncan took the role of Freshwater Health Manager and was responsible for the routine health monitoring and treatment of stocks across the company’s mainland freshwater sites.  After leaving Marine Harvest McConnell, Duncan graduated in 2000 from the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling with a Master’s Degree in Aquaculture including submitting the thesis, “The use of Proxitane® against fungal and protozoan infections in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) ova and fingerlings”.
