"I purchased the MFV Independence OB196 on the 8th February 2013 in Scarborough and left for my home port of Mallaig the following day. Some 2 hours into the journey we encountered a major problem with the main engine and as a result the vessel had to be towed by the RNLI into Hartlepool Harbour.
Arrangements were then made over the next few days to tow Independence back to Whitby where investigations began by Parkol Marine Limited and by Mr David Fenner, appointed surveyor for Sunderland Marine. I have been a customer of Sunderland Marine for nearly 37 years and never did I need their support and expertise more than this time in my career. The first meeting was arranged later that week and was attended by Claims Adjuster, Mike Wilson and Underwriter, John Lamb. They both put me at ease and despite my embarrassment at the prospect of a very expensive claim so soon after purchasing the vessel, the whole situation was dealt with in a thoroughly professional and courteous manner. Further investigations revealed that the damage was caused by a plastic carrier bag which had entered through the seacock and a decision was quickly made that the costs were too high to repair the existing engine. A reconditioned engine was sourced by Parkol Marine and work commenced immediately. By the end of March the work was completed in full and I finally departed for home safe in the knowledge that everyone involved had given me their utmost attention.
It is very reassuring to know that your insurance is dealt with by a company who act instantly and who provide a personal level of service that cannot be matched anywhere else in the fishing industry.
Best wishes from a very grateful and satisfied customer."
